ParticipantI bought my car just eight months ago and already the front bonnet has small marks on it. I live near Al Quoz and drive on the highway every day. Big trucks pass by me and small stones fly and hit my car. Has this happened to your car too? How bad did the scratches get before you did something about it?
My cousin told me to look into a clear protective film. He said it goes on top of the paint and stops scratches from reaching the car surface. Is that really how it works? Does the film take the damage instead of the paint? I want to understand this before I spend any money.
I searched online and found a Scratch Resistant Film Al Quoz service that does this kind of work. They say the film is made from a material called thermoplastic polyurethane. I have never heard this word before. Is it the same thing people also call TPU? Is TPU strong enough to stop a sharp stone from scratching through it?
One thing that surprised me is that they say the film can heal small scratches on its own. Is that true? How does a film fix itself? Does it need hot sun to do that? We have very strong sun here in the UAE so maybe that helps. But I want to know if deep scratches also heal or only very light ones?
I also want to ask about the thickness. I read that film comes in different thickness sizes like 6 mil and 10 mil. What does mil mean here? Is thicker film always better? Or does thicker film look strange on the car and change how it looks?
My car is a Nissan Patrol. It is a big SUV. Can scratch resistant film cover a large car like this? Does it cost much more for a big SUV than for a small sedan? I also want to know if they can cover only the front part like the bonnet and bumper. Or do they only do full car wraps?
What about the colour of my car? I have a dark grey car. Will the film change the shade or make it look different? I have seen some old films on cars that look cloudy and dull. Does good quality film stay clear for many years? How many years before I need to replace it?
I also want to know about the shop process. Do they wash and prepare the car before putting the film on? Or do they just apply it straight away? If there are already small scratches on my paint will they fix those first before applying the film?
Does the film peel off easily in very hot weather? Al Quoz gets extremely hot in summer. Will the edges lift up after a few months in that heat? Has anyone had this problem before?
Has anyone in Al Quoz or nearby areas used a scratch resistant film service? Did it really work well? Did the film stay clear and strong after one or two summers? I really need honest advice before I book an appointment. Please share what you know below. -
