ParticipantBeen eyeing this 2018 Audi S6 over at a dealer near Ras Al Khor and honestly the test drive had me grinning like an idiot the whole time because that V8 rumble is just intoxicating and the interior still smells like expensive leather even after six years, but here’s the thing that’s eating at me, the service book shows three stamps from the dealership until 2021 and then suddenly nothing until a random oil change receipt from some unknown garage in Sharjah in 2024 and the seller keeps waving his hand saying the previous owner just did the maintenance himself because he was a real car guy who didn’t trust the dealer prices. Maybe I’m just naturally suspicious but I’ve been around the block enough times to know that “self maintained” on a twin turbo V8 usually translates to “I ignored the oil screen recall and now the turbo bearings are singing their final song” or “the PCV valve is clogged and I just kept resetting the check engine light with a twenty dirham Bluetooth dongle.” My gut tells me to walk unless I can find someone who actually does a proper Audi Certified Car Inspection Dubai that goes way beyond kicking the tires and scanning for basic OBD codes, like someone who knows to check the condition of the motor mounts because these cars eat them for breakfast and can spot a weeping timing cover gasket before it becomes a five thousand dirham job to reseal everything. The car looks stunning in Navarra Blue and the price is almost too good to be true which is exactly why I’m standing here with my wallet half open and my brain screaming at me to slow down and get a professional to hook up a VCDS and actually log some boost pressure data while doing a pull. Anyone else been in this exact tug of war between wanting the car so bad you can taste it versus the fear of buying someone else’s deferred maintenance nightmare?
